Age and wisdom

I used to say that I want to know more. I had a thirst for knowledge. I tried to read as much as I could. I wanted to be adventurous in my search for meaning and results. I spent the first half of my life doing this. By time I discovered that age was an important factor. I write this on my 51st birthday. Getting old is not as bad as I thought. In fact, I consider it as a gift and a beautiful one. As I shifted to my second half of life things were changing strikingly. Information was not that important to me. After all it did not bring much change in my life.

Then I discovered that enlightenment is not about how much you know. It is more about unknowing that knowing, more about unlearning than learning. It is not about having the answers of all the questions. It is more about entering a mystery that has no end.

It is the discovery of grace and that it is found everywhere and that it is not limited to one and elite people or church. It is offered to all and can be received by anyone who has a grateful heart. Then you will know that there is more depth and meaning to everything.

We think we have an answer to everything. But in reality it is a wrong answer or just a part of a much bigger and vast answer that you cannot grasp in one lifetime.

As you get older, let others pass on to you this wisdom and then pass it on to others.

  1. Fr. Karm,

From my experience I realised that life experiences are of great knowledge which surely one cannot learn anywhere. From books and study you become more knowledgeable of course, its important to exercise our minds so we are able to think and become more intelligent. God gave us the mind to use it. Our journey is to become better persons by letting ourselves be led by God and Jesus teachings. Which penetrate in our hearts and give us peace and joy.

  2. Yes, Ruth... as I said, from books and courses you get information. It is life that gives you the experience that will bring real transformation. Thanks.
